Revolving above London

-Look Up, Look Down Challenge, Week 38

Every Thursday, I publish a post containing photo(s) taken from above or below, and invite you to join in the challenge by posting your own photos with an up or down perspective.

Despite all the new skyscrapers in London, the BT Tower stands out on the skyline.  No matter where you are in London, it never seems far away.

Opened in 1965, with the main structure standing 177 metres tall, the Post Office Tower (as it was then) was the tallest building in London until 1980, when it was surpassed by the NatWest Tower.  It was open to the public for visits and for meals in its revolving restaurant.

The tower is no longer open to the public, though it does sometimes feature in the London Open House weekends.

  1. I’ve never seen that before – it’s the exact opposite of what I imagine when I think of London 🙂 Thanks for sharing it at WWDD!

    • It was. I was lucky enough to get back there on business a couple of years ago, for a special BT event. I only had my phone camera and it was hazy so the photos were useless.

BT tower brings back a shedload of memories… my campus was just round the corner, and one of my fave Indian restaurants is, too.
