P is for… Police Boxes in Edinburgh

a1_20140501_DSC04033_6000 x 4000There are still many traditional blue police boxes on the streets of Edinburgh.  Although they serve no practical use these days, it is still nice to see their bright colour, especially in Spring when they contrast perfectly with the pink blossom.

A number of the old boxes have been sold off to anyone willing to bid.  Some have been purchased by collectors, others by innovative business people.  If the new owner wanted to keep the box on the streets they had to change its colour from traditional blue and obtain planning permission.  They are only small, but it is still possible to run a small business out of them.

  1. Thanks for all the likes on my blog; I’m pleased to have discovered yours. I featured police boxes too – I think you got to that post – so it’s great to see your take on it. I’ve never really noticed them in Edinburgh: I’ll need to keep my eyes open now.

    • You have a fascinating blog. I haven’t spent enough time in Glasgow yet, but I’ve enjoyed what I’ve seen. Yes, I saw your police boxes 🙂

  2. How fun are these! I love their idea to reuse these. Happy Pink Saturday, Debbie. This post is being featured on my Pink Saturday post this week as “the one that caught my eye”.

  3. The pictures are great and the blue is perfect against the pink blossoms. They are the perfect size to sell hotdogs or yogurt ice cream. It would look great in my yard. I have no idea what the police did in them? I am glad I am not the only one asking:)

  4. Cool finds. I’ve discovered Heartbeat and it is funny that they don’t have any of these police boxes on it – they have to find a phone box in the middle of the moors – even the police have to use them too. Then of course, there is Dr Who. Say no more.

  5. They are so stinkin’ cute, who WOULDN’T love to have one…either for a small business…or have one moved to your backyard and make an adorable potting shed out of it…a little playhouse…so many ways to keep these around.
Now, I’m curious as to what the police used them for….?
