This huge billboard gazes down on an important square In Barcelona, one that marks a hey point in the history of Catalunya.
The 1714 Siege of Barcelona lasted for over a year and ended with the fall of Barcelona to the troops of Philip V. On 11 September 1714, Barcelona surrendered to the Bourbons marking the beginning of a period of repression for the Catalans. This red monument, in the Fossar de les Moreres, was built in 1989 to honour the Catalans who lost their life during the siege. It now plays an important part on the National Day of Catalonia, La Diada, held on 11 September.
