This shocking piece of street art up high on the walls of Manchester’s Northern Quarter is the work of Buenos Aires-born artist Hyuro. She took on the theme of ‘children of war’ as part of the Cities of Hope exhibition that took place in May 2016. She depicts the effects of conflict on children in a successfully horrifying manner. Part of Monday Mural
A chilling image. The gray tones underscore the grim reality this represents for children in war zones. Thanks for contributing to this week’s Monday Mural.

Much of the street art in Manchester is bright and cheerful but this festival brought out some very thought provoking and concerning pieces

Fantastic painting/mural, I am always amazed by these big paintings. A very sad one, all those children of war, it is terrible 😦

All of the artists in this big street art event worked hard to raise critical social issues.

A striking image but I feel uncomfortable about ‘liking’ it as public art. I hope no children – especially refugee children – live within sight of this mural.

Like certainly isn’t a good word for this. But I think it’s important that people see it and understand. Children don’t need too much scary detail but they do need to learn about the world. And they often understand better than us adults.

Very sad. We sometimes forget about this dreadful aspect of war, where children are drawn into it in the most horrifying way.
