Evening tasks on Christian Radich, Oslo, September 2016
Christian Radich, a full-rigged ship based in Oslo, celebrates its 80th anniversary this year.
It was built by Framnæs Mechanics Yard in 1937 and acted as a training ship for the Norwegian merchant navy for many years: the dormitories had capacity for 80-90 students. Plus, there was a large galley for cookery lessons, facilities for carpentry training, and there used to be a machine shop for the training of engineers.
It is now used for paid trips for sailing trainees, and it participates in a number of races and sail events. It will take part in the Tall Ships Regatta 2017, running from Greenwich, London, to Sines on Portugal’s Algarve in April.

I’ve seen this beauty up close twice, Debs (once in Hartlepool! 🙂 ) 80 years young- how fabulous! I hope I look that good. 🙂 I’ll have to check dates. I’m in the Algarve in early April.

This is a fabulous capture, Debbie, with silhouetted sea-men. I love it. This is a proof that a good sunset can look spiffing in monochrome too 🙂

Yes, I did feel compelled to leave a little bit of warm colour in one of them, but they are striking in monochrome. Black and white definitely creates more drama, rather than prettiness 🙂
