Photo competitions

I know a lot of readers who fancy entering a photo competition and either don’t know what’s open or don’t get around to it (I suffer from both).  So here’s a list to get you started.  Please let me know of any others you are aware of in the comments below and I’ll keep the list up-to-date.

Here is a current summary and you can pop in whenever you fancy to get an updated list over here.  There are several deadlines in the next couple of weeks, so do take a look if you fancy giving it a go.

Emerging Talent
Looking for 50 emerging talents, any age, any nationality, any type of photography.  Enter a series of 10 images for 60 US$, various prizes, and all entrants receive a detailed critique of their entry,
Closing date 17 October 2017

Send Anywhere Awards
Submit 10-20 images, a related series or your strongest single images, plus a 100 words on a project you want to complete and where in the world.  The winner will receive an all expenses paid trip to their chosen location and coverage of their work.
Closing date 23 October 2017

Life Framer
12 monthly calls for entries, each overseen by a world-renowned photographer or industry professional.
Each month winning photographers receive online exposure, $2000 in cash prizes, and feedback.  Varying costs to enter, but $80 for 12 months membership gives most entries and feedback.
At the end of the year winners are exhibited in shows in New York, Paris, Rome and Tokyo.
Submit jpg or png images less than 2Mb.

NOVEMBER:  Human Body
DECEMBER:   An Instant

Wanderlust Photo of the Year
Closes 15 November 2017.
Amateur entries to be under categories: People, Wildlife, Landscape, or Active Travel.
Both amateur and professional entries re invited for the Portfolio section: five photos that tell a tale.
The winner of each amateur category wins a Wanderlust photo commission to Costa Rica, plus £500 worth of vouchers.
The winner of the Portfolio competition, wins a cash prize of £3,000.

Sony World Photography Award – Open Competition
Closes 4 January 2018
Ten categories: Architecture; Culture; Enhanced; Motion; Landscape & nature; Portraiture; Still Life; Street photography; Wildlife.
Can enter 3 images in any category(ies) – they must be taken in 2017.
For each category there will be 1 winner, up to 10 shortlisted photographers, and up to 40 commended photographers.

The Big Picture
The Telegraph’s weekly travel photography competition, with a straightforward single theme of travel.
Gives the chance to win a £500 camera.

Readers’ Travel Photo Competition
The Guardian’s monthly and annual travel photo competition, no theme other than travel.
Monthly winners receive a £200 voucher.
All monthly winners move through to the annual competition, and the grand winner in 2017 will be awarded a holiday to Costa Rica.
