Jacob’s Ladder is a colloquial term used to describe a connection between earth and heaven, derived from the portrayal of Jacob’s dreams in the Book of Genesis:   “And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven”.

Not a bad choice of name for these wooden steps from Sidmouth Beach to a great cafe, with the largest cakes I have ever seen.  The gardens up top are well worth a wander too, and they provide the opportunity to use up a few of those patisserie calories…
