Jacob’s Ladder is a colloquial term used to describe a connection between earth and heaven, derived from the portrayal of Jacob’s dreams in the Book of Genesis: “And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven”.
Not a bad choice of name for these wooden steps from Sidmouth Beach to a great cafe, with the largest cakes I have ever seen. The gardens up top are well worth a wander too, and they provide the opportunity to use up a few of those patisserie calories…

Great post! I love Jacob’s Ladder. Now I gotta break out the Huey Lewis & the News song.

Dramatic shots! And if you climb the stairs, the calories don’t count.

The cakes are ridiculously big in the cafe, I hope you went upstairs for the view.

Upstairs was closed for renovation 😒
But we’ve booked to return to the house we rented next spring. And that spot will definitely call me back. I’ll let you know when in case you fancy meeting for a coffee.

A beautiful spot and you beat me to it as usual Sue !!
The cafe was doing well. It was a long wait to get coffees and cakes. But worth it

It’s a good few years since I was there, one Mother’s Day, a little parky but a beautiful sunny day

The angle of my shot exaggerated the height. I’m no athlete but was able to run up them.

Probably a good job there is so many steps considering the cake size then 😉
