A Way to Remember

Reflection on Beyond Recall by Brigitte Kowan,  Salzburg,  May 2018

Salzburg’s Staatsbrücke bears four semi-transparent, mirrored cubes, one at each bridgehead. These pieces of modern art are the work of Viennese artist,  Brigitte Kowan. The cubes contain words to remind us of the hundreds of prisoners of war and forced labourers, who were made to work on the construction of this bridge against their will from 1941 until 1945.  Her aim is to ensure that we do not forget.
