Dwarf in Mirabell’s Zwerglgarten, Salzburg, June 2018
The Zwerglgarten, “Dwarf Garden”, in Salzburg’s Mirabell Gardens was introduced by Prince Archbishop Franz Anton Harrach in the early eighteenth century. Many of these characters were modelled on dwarves who lived in the court and served as entertainers to the archbishop.
Years later, they were removed and auctioned off, but have since been rescued and cleaned. They now stand in a circle in the gardens.

I’m off on a driving trip to Minnesota in a week (about 3000 miles RT) and then to Denmark in September. How about you?

That’s some drive, Marie! I don’t know much of Denmark, really only Copenhagen, which I like. Should be lovely in September.
I might be in Spain part work, part friends in August; then photographing horses in Iceland in September, and more photography in Oman in November

Lovely gallery of shots Debbie. I only recently learned how prized dwarves were as (I cringe to say it) possessions of monarchs and nobles.

I was surprised at that too – apparently the original statues here in Salzburg were a gift to his mistress. Made me wonder what the message was!
