Cooling with an Elephant

HueDSC0802120170912-1

Elephant Springs, Hue, Vietnam, September 2017

Elephant Springs (Suối Voi) lies just outside Hue and is a classic stop-off point after traversing the mountains and Hai Van Pass, between Hoi An and Hue.

The surrounding scenery is gorgeous and the water is cool, but the swimming area is fabricated from random rocks and plenty of blue plastic. My visit was on a quiet day so few crowds, though the eating places were closed accordingly. Reading online reviews of this spot, that is the best/only time to go: beware a variety of tourist scams, that persuade you to pay extra for everything, from being guided to the water, to paying to sit on the floor. To be fair, I saw absolutely no evidence of this, but the reviews are consistent in their complaints.
