This church sits close to Las Ramblas and the coast, but somehow hides itself from tourists, even though the towering statue of the Virgin of Mercy can actually be seen from the coastal promenade.
The church has been here since 1775, though the dome and the Virgin were not added until 1888. However, the church suffered extreme damage during the Civil War and major renovation work was required. Work started in 1939 but lasted for many years, with the Virgin, which had been torn down and melted early in 1936, finally replaced in 1956.

Odd to think of anything being near Las Ramblas and hidden from tourists, it being so busy! It is a very captivating statue though. I can see why you took the image. Great shot. #mysundayphoto
