If you gaze down from the heights of 4-wheel drive up Jebel Akhdar, you’ll spot several old villages clinging tightly to the mountain side. This one is in a good spot for mad visitors to go and scramble around the old clay brick buildings.
This guide was sitting on the wall of the small car park, waiting for his visitors to return. To the left of him, there’s a long flight of stairs down into the valley, and a pretty easy walk along the bed of the wadi.
Just watch out for the rocks underfoot that will gain great pleasure if you spend more time looking at the houses above rather than paying attention to foot placement.
Eventually, you come to a somewhat hidden path that will allow you to clamber up into the village. There are even a few green arrows to encourage your climb.
Most of the village looks uninhabited, but every now and there there is a hint that local life continues here. Colourful doorways, rugged steps and some solid wood beams suggest inhabitation, as does the small mosque.
Nosiness satisfied, I now concentrated on protecting my cameras from hazardous bumps against rock, as I guided my vertigo-ridden head and clumsy feet back down the uneven steps and over random boulders.
The final climb back up the flight of stairs to the car park was an easy challenge after that, and a refilled bottle of water was my prize.
Plus my photos.

Wow…..Oman is one of my favourite countries. Lived there for five years and wouldn’t mind returning.

A few scrambles there to worry about, Debs, but I was grinning from ear to ear, knowing that Sue would be in seventh heaven. 🙂 🙂 Thanks so much for joining me, hon.
