Chimneys have claimed a number of lives over the centuries, in fact the word “stuck” may have come from the chimney sweep trade. You can read all about it here.
Now over to all of you. Do come and join us in our Saturday six-word musings.
I’ll admit that many of us openly break the numeric rule and share far more words (all excellent of course!) so the key rule is to have a title of six words – and then create around that the post that you desire! Perhaps in bunches of 6 words if you’re feeling inspired.
To join the challenge, please put a link in your post to the URL of this post. Then come back here and leave us a comment. If you have any problems with linking, just put your own URL into the comment. And do feel free to socialise digitally – tweet, instagram, flickr, etc. with the hashtagtags #SixWordSaturday and #6WS.

I found the “chimney challenge” – it is Bren’s a Photo for a Week: https://ryanphotography.uk/2019/01/21/photo-for-the-week-25-chimneys-and-fireplaces/comment-page-1/#comment-3251
And here is the photo that I was reminded of when I saw your chimney guardian:

Odd decoration indeed.
The article about the chimney deaths was pretty shocking. I had no idea.

What an odd decoration 🙂 I dared the cold this morning and had a surprise meeting by the frozen river.

As our part of Ontario is currently sitting at -15°C feeling like -24 in the wind I thought I would go somewhere colder,

Lovely photo. We had about a -15, too, here on Vermont’s Canadian border but ours was -15F, which is about a -26 to you, my Northern friend.

We’ve not got that cold yet. It must be an age thing, I could happily stand around taking photos at -40° a couple of decades ago. Now I don’t like -15°C.

What an unusual shot – will never use ‘stuck’ again without thinking of chimney sweeps. ‘The Water Babies’ made for uncomfortable reading both as a child and adult – but my SWS ends on a brighter note

I had to check but there is also a German children/youth book called “Die schwarzen Brüder” (Black Brothers) about a young boy from Tessin in Switzerland. During the 19th century poor people from the alps used to sell their children to go to Milano, Italy, to work there as chimney sweeps. The novel impressed me a lot when I was a youngster and I read it several times.

I never heard of that. I’ll see if I can track it down. 🙂

Here is the wikipedia entry to the author: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lisa_Tetzner . The book is from 1938. I have no idea whether it was translated into English but now that I know that you speak German I won’t even mention that 😀

Ooops, I can’t edit. The book was published in 41/42. Wikipedia only mentions the German title, so I guess it hasn’t been translated. It is worthwhile checking out the German entry in wikipedia, it is – naturally, for a German / Swiss German author much more extensive.

My German isn’t great any more but a children’s book is a good way to revive it!

Interesting. It must be gruesome work, that batman has gone all pale. — I have a few chimneys lined up for another challenge (One Word Sunday, possibly? I’ll have to check.). My sixer this week is something completely different: https://picturesimperfect2.wordpress.com/2019/01/19/gold-is-where-you-find-it/

Just reading the article makes me gasp for air. Horrible occupations, Debbie, those poor kids. But a funny photo! 😀
My occupation today is of a lighter substance. 😉
