Climb

Church of St John the Baptist, Gozo, March 2019

Ix-Xewkija, one of the oldest villages of Gozo, is home to the island’s largest church which proudly features the third largest unsupported dome in the world.

The dome of St John’s is visible in any view across the island, and I knew I had to climb to the top before I left. I hadn’t expected this open spiral staircase, which was waiting on top of the dome. Clambering up it isn’t too bad. Coming down is a different matter!
