Outside the Imperial War Museum, London, November 2019
As a follow-up to this morning’s post about the 30th anniversary of the wall coming down, I thought I’d share some of the activity at the Imperial War Museum in London today.
Two fragments of the wall were brought to London to mark the anniversary and have been decorated by two of my favourite street artists, Thierry Noir and Stik. These pieces are on display at the entrance to the IWM until 1 December 2019.

The artists were also at the museum today, signing posters and postcards of their work. People had queued overnight, and the queues continued until mid afternoon.
These 2 artists are known for their strong messages about unity. Noir was the first artist to decorate the wall, starting in 1984, and he has chosen to create a new piece, together with his friend and fellow artist, Stik. The two characters face each other, linking the past with the present, and emphasising connection between the people. Stik remarked, ‘I hope our collaboration on the Berlin Wall will highlight the importance of connection between people through times of division and change’

What an honor to be able to meet these two incredible artists. I have seen two different parts of the Wall in two museums in my state. It’s amazing how much color and graffiti are on the west (free) side and how nothing is on the east (guarded) side. A stark contrast and reminds me of these two figures, too. This is a memorable time in history and a wonderful (and quite relevant) post.

Thanks for that. The video is fascinating. Stik’s work reminds me somewhat of David de Limòn’s in Valencia.

Yes there’s a definite similarity. A simple approach to passing on their message. Limon’s work seemed more light hearted but I may have been influenced by being in holiday! Stik is quite an activist.
