Pickering Place, London, October 2018
Pickering Place, off St James Street, is the smallest square in London, but has masses of history per square inch. It was home to the Texan Republic’s embassy, until it became part of the United States in 1845. It also hosted its fair share of duels (including Beau Brummel), bear baiting and gambling.
Now it is a quiet spot that is proud of its Georgian architecture, and it’s well worth an evening visit to see its original gaslight in action.
