Divisions of perspective

First of all, the educational part of this post:

“The divisions of Perspective are 3, as used in drawing; of these, the first includes the diminution in size of opaque objects; the second treats of the diminution and loss of outline in such opaque objects; the third, of the diminution and loss of colour at long distances.”

-Leonardo da Vinci

Now the fun part:

Inspired by da Vinci’s Last Supper, Madrid, February 2018

Inspired by da Vinci’s Last Supper, Athens, February 2019

Inspired by da Vinci’s Mona Lisa, Athens, February 2019

And now a chance to stretch the squares:

  1. I finally got back online late last night and am now playing catch-up. I love both Last Supper’s but the one from Athens looks political in nature and the hands of the “common man” pleading for help. I certainly didn’t feel like it was due to adoration. My favorite da Vinci is the Vitruvian Man.

You have found some genuine beauties here.

  2. They are all quite fabulous, but the Mona Lisa eyes is my favourite.
    Thanks for participating Debbie.

    • Yes, it’s very clever – with small figures in the irises. It’s a massive scale and the only way to appreciate the whole thing is to stand on the other side of a busy road.

  3. Leonardo’s notebooks about perspective and distance are remarkable — he was the first to articulate a lot of these things.

  4. Most disturbing with those hands reaching…. But great post, as Margaret said, who knew that there was so much out there inspired by The Last Supper?

    • I saw one at a pub in Dublin too, but didn’t have time to dig that out! I just popped into the Cathedral to work out where the black Last Supper will be – it was there ready to be hung up for Saturday.
Photos should be ok, as it’s close to the rose window. I wondered if they were putting it in a small shrine.

    • Thanks Brian. The da Vinci quote started it off – I struggled to understand all those words, but it did remind me of the wonderful murals I have found. Just a shame I haven’t yet seen the real Last Supper
