This crane fly looked more substantial in his shadows than in reality. At least he has hung onto his stilt-like legs, even if one looks somewhat deformed. Not something I normally take photos of, but I loved his shadows.

Well spotted 😀 but I’m sure we can blame it on spell checker 😀

Great photos and shadows! In my family, back a few generations, we call crane flies migglihinks. Don’t quote me on the spelling, it might bemiggilihinks, or migglyhinks or something I haven’t considered! Probably no one ever bothered to spell it out!

Probably not! I think there are a few names used for them but I’ve certainly never come across that. I rather like it

The double shadow makes this shot so great. Interesting that in the shadow the creature looks more normal, its legs less entangled.

These are really fantastic images. They are sort of dreamlike. Perhaps nightmarish, depending on one’s perspective, but I think the crane fly looks like a fairy’s steed.

Glad you like them Brian. We’ve been having a bit of a plague of crane flies the last week or two. And this was on my stairs, picked out by two lights. Good old iPhone did well
