City skyscrapers, London, March 2021
The skyline above appealed to me because I could spot one of my favourites, the Gherkin. It has been surrounded and overwhelmed by taller skyscrapers in recent years, but this view has it peaking out, and making a statement in its reflection too. In the meantime, Tower 42 shouts for attention, whilst 22 Bishopsgate, the tallest in the City, blends in with the sky. Bishopsgate has been built with special glass to allow 60% more light than normal into the building – great for power usage and the environmental impact, and it also seems to soften the view.
An hour or so later at the Barbican, with a bluer sky and lowering sun, I could still spot the soft outline of Bishopsgate.
