A memorial garden in honour of the 9/11 terror victims stands in Grosvenor Square in London. It was opened by the Princess Royal in 2003, to mark the second anniversary of the attacks.
The central plaque is dedicated to the Britons who were killed in the attacks on the World Trade Centre and the Pentagon. This is surrounded by an oak pergola and pavilion which bears the words: “Grief is the price we pay for love”, part of a message from the Queen read out at a New York remembrance service one week after the attacks.
A metal girder recovered from the devastation of Ground Zero is buried beneath the garden. The half tonne of rusted steel from One World Trade Centre was placed underground because it was too distressing to be displayed.
The garden has been planted with flowers selected for their special significance and because they look at their best in the month of September:
-Rosemary for friendship and remembrance;
-Ivy for fidelity;
-Ivy for purity and the life of the soul;
-Phlox as a token of love;
-Coneflower for its healing properties;
-A White Rose that flowers in September.

“Grief is the price we pray for love” – so true. Thank you Debbie, for linking this to my non-challenge. May they rest in peace.
