I know a lot of readers who fancy entering a photo competition and either don’t know what’s open or don’t get around to it (I suffer from both). So here’s a list to get you started. Please let me know of any others you are aware of in the comments below and I’ll keep the page up-to-date.
Monthly calls for entries, each month with its own topic, each overseen by a world-renowned photographer or industry professional.
Monthly winners receive online exposure, $2000 in cash prizes, and feedback. Varying costs to enter, but $80 for 12 months membership gives most entries and feedback.
At the end of the year winners are exhibited in shows in New York, Paris, Rome and Tokyo.
Submit .jpg or .png images of less than 2Mb.

2018 Street Photography Awards
Awards include an exhibition in Arles, France; $22,000 in grant awards; projections at international photography festivals; publication in the LensCulture photobook; international exposure.
Varying costs to enter, but can submit one image for free.

The Big Picture
The Telegraph’s weekly travel photography competition, with a straightforward single theme of Travel.
Gives the chance to win a £500 camera.
Readers’ Travel Photo Competition
The Guardian’s monthly and annual travel photo competition, no theme other than Travel.
Monthly winners receive a £200 voucher.
All monthly winners move through to the annual competition, and the grand winner in 2018 will be awarded a photography holiday to West Greenland.
Each month’s competition closes on 25th of the month, but December closes on 17th.
Wex Mondays 2018
Wex Photographic runs a weekly competition – simply tweet your photo on a Monday with hashtag #WexMondays and you’ll be considered for the weekly selection. The only rule is that it must be a photo taken in the past week. The weekly winners are well publicised and move into the competition for the annual winner and inclusion in the exhibition at their Whitechapel store.

Open to amateur and professional photographers to enter they photos that celebrate the richness and diversity of city life.
Prizes include a photo trip and a variety of photographic equipment.
Wanderlust Photo of the Year
Closes 15 November 2017 – closed
Amateur entries to be under categories: People, Wildlife, Landscape, or Active Travel.
Both amateur and professional entries re invited for the Portfolio section: five photos that tell a tale.
The winner of each amateur category wins a Wanderlust photo commission to Costa Rica, plus £500 worth of vouchers.
The winner of the Portfolio competition, wins a cash prize of £3,000.
Sony World Photography Award – Open Competition
