You may have gathered from my recent posts that I’ve been in Arizona for the last week. I just got back to the UK today and am busy sorting through my photos. The beautiful, shiny Paolo Soleri bridge in Scottsdale is my choice for this week’s bridges challenge from Ailsa.
Paolos Soleri was born in Italy in 1919 and spent time at the Taliesin West fellowship 1946-7, finally emigrating to Arizona in 1956. He is famous for his bridge designs (though this was the first to built, in 2010, when Soleri was already 91) and for his concept of “arcology”, a merging of architecture and ecology. This concept can be seen in practice at the Arcosanti community north of Phoenix.
