We are in for a fantastic summer of art in Britain this year.
The Royal Academy’s Summer Exhibition is on already, and runs until 18 August.
In London alone, you can choose between Vermeer at the National Gallery, Patrick Caulfield and Lowry at Tate Britain and Treasures of the Royal Courts at the V&A.
Further afield, Tate Liverpool is showing Chagall, the Scottish National Portrait Gallery is hosting Man Ray Portraits and Manchester Art Gallery’s exhibitions include English and French Impressionism and Christian Dior.
However, if galleries aren’t your thing or you haven’t the time to get to one of these exhibitions, Art Everywhere, with the backing of Tate Britain and others, is bringing large scale art to the streets of Britain over the summer.

Fifty pieces of art, all from UK public collections, will be replicated and displayed on billboards in streets up and down the country.
You can get involved before the display commences by voting for the pieces you think should make up the chosen fifty. Voting is open now, just pop here and start clicking on your favourites.
At least 15,000 billboards will be converted into massive art displays, with the space being provided free of charge by the billboard owners. The project is also inviting the public to donate, so that even more streets can enjoy their moment of glory. A donation of just £3 will pay for paper and printing and brighten up another billboard. Go here to donate. If you donate more than £3 you will get a special reward, ranging from a badge to your very own billboard poster.
The display itself starts on 10 August. So grab your brolly (just in case!), download the App and get out onto the streets for your very own treasure hunt.

Looks like it can be fun indeed! Lovely shot! 😀

Isn’t it! I am excited by it and keen to see how many billboards they manage to convert in the end.

What a great idea. I suppose they won’t be there when I am in London half of July.
