Fig and Sparrow

My first drink of the day is tea, but by mid-morning latest I’m in need of a coffee. And a good coffee at that.

My latest caffeine find is Fig and Sparrow in Manchester’s vibrant Northern Quarter.

Fig and Sparrow is a great recent addition to the Northern Quarter’s coffee scene.  Tea and coffee is supplied by Ringtons, a family business since 1907.  This quality product plus the immense care taken over each cup of coffee by the well-trained staff, means that a delicious cup of coffee soon arrives at your table.

On top of that, there is a tempting array of cakes and scones, plus some savouries such as salmon and cream cheese on your choice of artisan bread.  For me, a couple of slices of the fig and walnut bread with butter and jam is hard to beat.  In fact, this has become my go-to breakfast spot when I’m lucky enough to be in Manchester,

The friendly surroundings may well cause you to linger here a while.  If you want some entertainment, there are some old copies of National Geographic that should provide just that.

In addition to the cafe, the shop also stocks a tempting selection of homewares, many from small local producers and designers.

Most definitely worth a visit should you be in the vicinity.
