The Church of St Mary-le-Strand, whose foundation stone was laid back in February 1715, is something of a hidden gem, standing on a small island in the middle of the Strand, surrounded by trees.
It is the official church of the Women’s Royal Naval Service, the Women’s Royal Naval Reserve and the Association of Wrens. Serving Wrens are now fully integrated with the rest of the Royal Navy but the church retains its strong connection with the Wrens.
Enter the church and to your right you’ll find a memorial book of Wrens who have died on active service.
The closest underground station is Temple.
