This week I have another odd ball toilet sign, this time from Venice.

Is that a man on a pogo stick? Or just a Peeping Tommaso?

I seem to have little humor with this kind of thing; I like my privacy when visiting public toilets.

My biggest tip is walk! I was on my own much of the time (doing a dawn photography course) and I just walked and wandered. I got lost many times but eventually you get back to something you recognise. I used my phone maps to help if I was really lost. Using a printed map isn’t always practical – the streets are very well labelled but finding a tiny alley on a printed map isn’t easy! The hotel I stayed in wasn’t cheap but it was great. I booked at the last minute so there weren’t any bargains to be had. When I booked it I didn’t even realise it was right on the Grand Canal! It was a 5 minute walk to the Rialto Bridge, about 20 minutes to the Station, 15 to St Mark’s Square and right next to the Ca d’Oro waterbus stop. It was Hotel Foscari Palace. My favourite area was Cannaregio – there’s a couple of quieter canals running more or less parallel to the main shopping street (Strada Nuova) that are quiet, partly residential and have nice, local bars and restaurants. I would recommend looking for a hotel in this area. Feel free to email me if you have specific questions.

OK, someone please explain to me why any one would want to watch a member of the opposite sex go to the bathroom? Am I missing something? (And yes, that is a hilarious sign. I do believe it is encouraging such behavior, otherwise there would be an X through it!)

Public toilets are notoriously expensive in Venice so maybe it’s trying to add value?

Sure, he’s climbing over the wall to use the toilet when she’s finished. I get it now! Thanks! 🙂
