Where to Stay in Ljubljana

I did a fair bit of research on where to stay for my long weekend in Ljubljana.  I wanted somewhere central (not too difficult as it’s not a huge city).  In fact, I decided I wanted to be right on the river.

My eventual choice was the Vander Urbani – a traditional but modernised building with just 16 rooms, located on the river and with good online reviews and a good Tripadvisor rating.  It also has a rooftop pool but as I wasn’t expecting hot weather in October that wasn’t a factor for this trip.

I wasn’t disappointed in any way – the location is just perfect, and my room was bright, spacious and well equipped.  I’m very fussy about my bed – the slightest dip or sag gives me back pain for days – and this mattress was perfect.

I had a side view of the river and the local cafe.  Of course, being in such a central position, there is some noise in the evenings, but nothing to spoil my stay.

The hotel has been modernised inside in a trendy and welcoming manner.  The staff on reception were some of the friendliest and most helpful I have met. There is an excellent restaurant on site – I can’t fault the food, wine or service.

On the roof, there’s a small terrace and pool and superb views.

For better views still, you can walk up to the Castle above and get a view down to the hotel.

When I return (soon, hopefully) I shall definitely stay here again.  If you decide to check in and check it out, my recommendation is to arrange pick-up at the airport through the hotel.  Its central position means that it is located in the pedestrian area of town and not easy to find if you are a first time visitor.  The taxi driver will collect you and drop you off at the edge of the pedestrian zone; from there a friendly buggy-driving helper will collect you and deposit you and your bags at the hotel.

Vander Urbani Resort, Krojaska ulica 6-8
