I decided to go for monochrome this week. This was a tricky shot because of the light sky and dark shaded cannon, so for this one I’ve created an HDR from 3 shots at different exposures using Photomatix Pro’s standard monochrome preset. I then returned to Lightroom to straighten and sharpen slightly.
I am very happy to see the detailed clouds and the variety of textures.

You’ve achieved a lovely balance in this one Debbie and I do like the detail, textures and tones. Very appealing 😃

The BW gives this a really dramatic feel.

You really brought out the moodiness of the clouds and the detail of the canon, great edit. 😀

it is great how HDR brought out the textures…

I haven’t used HDR either. I think the details in the clouds are great – threatening sky to match the threatening canon!

I know nothing about creating a HDR so all I can say is that it looks great!

Heaven’s above! (literally 🙂 ) You two are far too clever for me.

Yes, I see what you mean. Maybe I should have worked harder at it to even out the colouring a little

You got excellent detail in the clouds, nicely done there. I can see a soft glow effect around the chain going into the ring and the wall steps on that side from the HDR process , its not unpleasing but I do notice it 🙂
