A colourful note: A Dictionary of Color by Maerz and Paul informs us that burnt orange has been used as a colour name since 1915.  This dark orange shade appeared as a Crayola crayon in 1958.

  1. What a beautiful shot and I do like the colour of burnt orange.
I wonder where the horses are going – they’re all unbridled so will they be herded up and moved somewhere?! A photo asking lots of questions!

    • Yes, the riders are guardians. And the unbridled are their horses. I don”t think there are any truly wild horses on the Camargue anymore. The guardians look after them and tourists can go and ride them.

    • It’s a fantastic part of France – I love the whole of Provence, and the horses and bulls of the Camargue make an exquisite break from history and architecture and man-made art.

  2. Beautiful. You might want to also check out a 1971 movie called friends where two teenagers runaway to the Camargue. A bit of a teen melodrama but some nice scenery. 🙂
