The castle is a great place to visit and provides some good views down, but I think I prefer looking up – that lets you appreciate its strength and dominance
I was in Edinburgh with my family in 1996, and we saw the tattoo…I’ll never forget it. I’ve forgotten how I got up to the castle, because my feet were extremely sore, so I couldn’t walk as far as, nor as well as my brothers and sister, not even as far as my 70+ parents.
I only know we were on the road, and it was quite painful for me, but I have never regretted going up there. The Edinburgh Military Tattoo has been the highlight of my life—in particular the lone piper playing on the castle ramparts. Just thinking about it always gives me a thrill, even more than 20 years later.

It looks very Scottish – dour, grim, stoic and majestic.

Yes, most of the people are eating! It was Festival time, hence the music bit too

Glad you like it Paula – it’s also an unusual Edinburgh capture: people are eating ice cream!

I know it is a bit colder there, but would not think it rare for them to eat icecream 🙂 I heard that the Scots love their food.

You’re definitely right! They are known for fried and battered everything. But they also have some tremendous traditions and great restaurants
