What is being termed the “largest migration of human beings in the world” is taking place in China, as families unite to welcome and celebrate this year of the rooster.
The Xinhua news agency has reported that three billion trips are expected during the 40-day Lunar period. Festivities will take place around the world, with San Francisco and london both claiming the biggest celebrations outside China.

The 12-year Chinese zodiac cycle means that we are saying goodbye to the monkey and welcoming in the rooster. In addition to the animal sign, Chinese astrology also cycles through the five elements of Metal, Wood, Water, Fire and Earth. The element-sign combinations shape the astrology of the year and each specific combination occurs every 60 years.
Famous fire Roosters include Dawn French, Donny Osmond, Stephen Fry, and Jools Holland – so we all have a fair idea how old they are!

And a happy and firey new year to you, Jo.
I got to see some great lights in Manchester last night. Back home tonight and a quiet New Years Day I think. London is tempting but I think I’ll avoid the crowds!

I’d have liked to have been a Rooster but I’m a Rat!

Doesn’t sound so appealing, does it? But rats are quick-witted and resourceful apparently 😀
