Female soldier on Rosenthaler Strasse, Berlin, May 2017

Iraqi photographer Zmnako Ismael filmed the exodus of Yazidis from Mount Sinjar over two days in August 2014. He journeyed from the Newroz refugee camp in Syria to the mountain and back again, capturing the terror and sheer exhaustion of the fleeing Yazidis. His stunning images include a fourteen year old female soldier, Runak Bapir Gherib, and her family – see here – which has been converted into street art in Berlin by Berlin artist Moe79.
Zmanko Ismael was born in Iraqi Kurdistan and has worked as a correspondent and photojournalist with local newspapers and websites. Since 2014, he has worked for Metrography agency as a conflict photographer, documenting events in Kurdish areas.
Florian, aka Moe79, lives in Berlin and is a respected street artist.

I had a feeling it was based on a photograph. It’s so deeply emotional. Thanks for contributing to this week’s Monday Mural.
