“War broke: and now the Winter of the world
With perishing great darkness closes in.”
– from Wilfred Owen’s poem “1914”

Now over to all of you. Do come and join us in our Saturday six-word musings.

I’ll admit that many of us openly break the numeric rule and share far more words (all excellent of course!) so the key rule is to have a title of six words – and then create around that the post that you desire! Perhaps in bunches of 6 words if you’re feeling inspired.

To join the challenge, please put a link in your post to the URL of this post. Then come back here and leave us a comment. If you have any problems with linking, just put your own URL into the comment. And do feel free to socialise digitally – tweet, instagram, flickr, etc. with the hashtagtags #SixWordSaturday and #6WS.

  1. Almost overwhelming, but what an incredible way to bring it home to us all the horrors of 100 years ago. Just hoping we are not about to repeat the mistakes we made in the last century.

  3. You have me quite frightened though I don’t know what I’m doing reading this. The family had a nightmare getting here and we went to bed after 3 this morning. But thank God they’re here and safe 😃😃

      • Couldn’t get on the train from Leeds to Manchester- rush hour swarm of people. Next train 20 mins later terminated at Piccadilly so they were in total panic getting to the airport in time. Flight delayed 2 hours, 50 minutes of which was spent sitting on the runway. After 2 in the morning when we got home. But we had a lovely day yesterday and it’s just nice to have them around. 🙂 🙂 Thanks, hon. You ok?

  4. It is a big one this year, isn’t it, Debbie? Reading Wilfred Owens’ words prompts me to ask if you have read Pat Barker’s ‘Regeneration’ trilogy. Very moving, as I had great uncle serve in WWI.
