Yes, there are quite a few differences, but the ears are the easiest. The head shape is is noticeably different if you look at them front-on. And there are now 2 distinct species of African elephant – officially defined in 2000.

My top point to check would be can vehicles go off-track. There is nothing more frustrating than seeing an animal in the distance and not being able to get closer. I found Tanzania disappointing from that point of view, but had never had that issue in Kenya or Botswana.

Such majestic beast. I did not realize that besides the ear difference between African and Asian elephants but also the trunk are different. Amazing.
