Towards the future

DDP, Seoul, April 2018

This statue is the work of Korean sculptor, Kim Young Won. In 2016 – 2017, seventeen of his works were displayed in and around the Dongdaemun Design Park (DDP) in Seoul, in the Me-Towards Future exhibition. Two of them remain on permanent display, for all to study and enjoy.

This one is Shadow of Shadows – the Road, and stands in front of Miraero Bridge, hoping to guide us into the future. But which way is that? The sculpture certainly isn’t sure, as it’s not that easy to distinguish front from back.

  1. I started out thinking ‘fine figure of a woman’, then I got to the cloven hooves? and 2 ear lobes, and then you walked round the other side! I do like a mystery 🙂 🙂

  2. Oh that certainly wasn’t there when we were in Seoul. In fact at that time the sculpture park was a bit disappointing as they were having a fairly major re-think and it was emptier than we expected.
