Kitchener is back with something new

This weekend, I had a wander around Brick Lane and Shoreditch. As a priority, I went to check out the ever-changing wall of the Kinkao Korean restaurant. Would the wonderful Red Square mural from June still be there?

Sadly, no.

And neither is the restaurant.

But I found a wonderful new Dan Kitchener mural, in a doorway in Shoreditch. He created it for the Calloo Callay bar on Rivington Street, in July 2020.

Kitchener is a wonderfully busy artist, so there’s always a good chance of finding something new. As he said on Instagram recently, “I have so many ideas and not enough time / walls !”

  1. What a pity about all the graffiti on the old mural, but the new find is stunning. I love his painting style with people in the rain.
Thanks for participating in Monday Murals Debbie.

  2. Oh how sad about the Red Square mural. It was a beauty. I can’t believe someone would paint over that with UGLY graffiti. That would turn me off to that new Thai restaurant.

The Kitchener you found is gorgeous. It almost makes up for the lost one. Although I’m not really familiar with his work, it appears he really likes to create murals of people in the rain. This is very colorful and a truly lovely find, Debbie.

    • Yes, he definitely likes rainy shots, traffic, and a strong Japanese influence, including some lovely portraits.
The new one is a commissioned piece so will lats longer. I’m not sure what will happen with the Kenkao wall – it was a well known mural wall that changed frequently, with DANK a regular artist there.

  3. So many restaurants have disappeared in the pandemic! The very colorful night scene that you did find is really beautiful.

    be well… mae at
