Old signage and modern cars, Karl-Marx-Allee, Berlin, March 2022
Many of the structures from Cold War days on Karl-Marx-Allee, including signage, are now protected. This overhead sign advertises Tatra, a Czechoslovakian vehicle producer with a very long and interesting history. In fact, it is the third oldest company in the world producing vehicles with an unbroken history. I loved the traditional Plattenbau building, its signage, and the contrast with the modern cars parked in front.

I don’t think I would either, apart from anything else I need a garden or big balcony. But I’d love to see inside one.

Take ear plugs. Plattenbaus are notorious for being very poorly soundproof.

Ah yes, So I was reading. Just read an excellent book. You may have read it already, but if not, I highly recommend ‘Marzahn, mon amour’
