Look closely at the figure above and tell me, do you think the material is natural or man-made?
This sculpture is one of two by Italian artist Aron Demetz. They have been on display in St James’ Square since July 2013, but I was rather slow to spot them. As far as I’m aware, they will be moved this month.
The figure, with a hole in his chest, appears to be made of wood and is seemingly growing out of a tree trunk. It is, in fact, carved from wood, then burned and finally cast in bronze.
