Always sad to loose a pier they just seem so typically British to me.

Stunning photos, especially the top one that contains the sunsets that I love with something I’ve never seen — that pier!

A sad loss of a piece of important social history …… but great for sunsets (or sunrises) 🙂

Miss living just up the road from here . . the starling murmurations on the West Pier were incredible. I wonder where they all go now

I think there are fewer generally. I’ve heard they murmur (is it used as a verb?) at the existing pier, but I’ve never seen it. Photo of a starling murmuration were on my list of things to do last year and i didn’t. Must try harder!

Stunning at sunset. Years since I have been, and I don’t recall that concrete
structure to the bottom left of your image

Always there, I think. Its visibility probably depends on tide.

Does the structure still do something except looking exceptionally pretty in your photographs?

Sadly not, and there is less of it there now – it shrinks with every storm. It was a pier, but badly damaged by fire. There had been talk of rebuilding it but by the time it was seriously considered the damage had gone too far.

Unfortunately not. When I first lived in Sussex you could still walk onto the West Pier, but fire, storms and neglect have all brought their toll.

A lovely place, Jo. It’s my local bit of Spain! There’s an excellent tapas restaurant on the beach 🙂 🙂

Thanks Brian. It’s top of me day trip list as soon as there is a hint of sunlight here! I haven’t been for ages and need to see the pier again before it vanishes
