I spend a lot of time working near Trafalgar Square, but the menu where I work is boring. So the other day (a dull, grey one as is the norm at the moment in London) I took myself off to the National Gallery to check out the National Dining Rooms.
Sounds very grand doesn’t it?
But it doesn’t have to be, you can grab a light lunch or just tea and cake.
I had the lunch meal deal, a sort of open top sandwich and a cheeky glass of white wine. But then I was tempted by the cake. I’m sure you can see why…
…fluffy sponge, oodles of fresh cream and stunning presentation.
The service was very friendly, perhaps more than normal because I was on my own. I was given a table at the window looking down onto Trafalgar Square from where I could enjoy the rainy views.

Cake vs. Rainy Views
Now I have no cake and sunny views.
Maybe that was a mistake…
