Face in the Rocks

The face of the famous Tunisian poet, Abdulkacem Chebbi, gazes down from the Belvedere Rocks just south of the Route Touristique in Tozeur.

Too much landscaping, including the building of a golf course,  has detracted from the beauty of the natural setting, but it is still a good place to go to view the sunset.

Abdulkacem Chebbi (1909-1934)  is best known for writing the final two verses of the current National Anthem of Tunisia, Himat Al Hima (Defenders of the Homeland).  I believe the following words close by are also his:
