M is for… Marseille

I spent time in Marseille back in my student days, and I visited many times on business in the 80’s.  I have always been fond of the city: it’s a lively place, with plenty of character.  Variety and spice are provided by its proximity and links with North Africa.

In recent years, the city has been tidied, cleaned and renovated.  It hasn’t lost its character and I have to say I loved it even more after my visit last week.

I’ll be writing more about it over the next week or two, but for now, here is a taster, peeking through the metallic letter M’s that have been placed in strategic places around the city.

  1. You’ve had a lot of fun with their M. What a neat idea. I noticed when visiting Antwerp that they are rather fond of installing the letter A but they were not as substantial as these sturdy eMs.

  2. How neat that the M’s are in different places throughout the city. Love that pattern in the stones on the street in that second shot!

  3. Nice pictures! I really like all those M sculptures. There are sculptures like this in quite a few European cities I’ve been to lately, but they tend to spell out the whole time. These are a little different and cooler.
