An Eerie Muse

aDSC06972invert

There’s a strange sculpture in  l’Espace Pierre Cardin in Paris: it is a featureless face hidden in part behind a veil that is held aloft by bodiless hands.

This bronze sculpture is the work of Russian artist Alexander Bourganov (b. 1935 in Baku),  a National Artist of Russia and a member of the Russian Academy of Fine Arts.  In 2001 his studio in Moscow was given the status of a State Museum.

His many other works include:
♦ Fountain “Princess Turandot” on Old Arbat Street (1997)
♦ Monument to Alexander Pushkin and Natalia Goncharova on Old Arbat Street (1999)
♦ Monument to Alexander Pushkin  at George Washington University, Washington DC (2000)
♦Statue of John Quincy Adams, the first U.S. Ambassador to Russia and later President of the United States, located in front of the U.S. Embassy in Moscow (2008)

  1. Delicious. I will seek it out. When I read your intro, I thought about the Baudelaire. At least I think that’s who it is, in Pigalle, or somewhere. You have triggered many Paris recollections. Merci.
