At night, Southwark Bridge takes on hues of pink and blue. By day it is green and gold, showing off its colours after recent cleaning and restoration.
A previous bridge on the site, designed by John Rennie, opened in 1819, and was originally known as Queen Street Bridge. The current incarnation is a century older than that, being opened in 1921 by King George V and Queen Mary. It was designed by Sir Ernest George and Basil Mott and built by Sir William Arrol and Co.
I am a big fan of its smart green and gold railings and fantastic lamps, but at night it is best to take a peak underneath to see its ironwork details illuminated.

I’ve never seen such a beautiful bridge. The ones around here are ugly.
