Abandoned in Istanbul

I returned yesterday from my first ever visit to Istanbul.  I found it to be a vibrant place, full of contrasts: old and new; East and west; spicy and sweet.

I spent an afternoon wandering around the Galata area, where abandoned buildings alternate with renovated ones.

The one below may be past saving, but there are still hints of its former beauty.

    • It was sad to see so many abandoned buildings like this one, but on the other hand there were so many great renovations and so much work was still going on that the whole city had a vibrant and positive feel.

    • It was wonderful. The weather was awful unfortunately, with the rain making outdoor exploration difficult. It didn’t stop me but I must go back to see it in dryer, brighter weather.
