Brown is not Boring

This stocky little fellow is a Brown Parrot (also known as Meyer’s Parrot), and as you can see he is not at all boring even if his name is.

His belly is a beautiful shade of green-blue and he has a splash of yellow on wings and head. They are found in considerable numbers in the Okavango Delta where they feed on the seeds of the various leguminous trees.  Indeed, I came across this one sitting in a Sausage Tree, probably eyeing up his next meal.

Linked to Wild Bird Wednesday and Saturday Critters.

  1. What a strange colour for a parrot! Even so, he is a handsome fellow. I also looked up the delta and was enraptured at the wildlife as well as seeing a little of Botswana after having read all the No.1 Ladies Detective Agency series.

  2. There is nothing boring about this parrot or about a sausage tree. I know some red neck Ameicans who would love to have a saugage tree in their back yard … I would be curious about how it arrives at it’s name. Back to the parrot … he is indeed beautiful and the color combination is among my favorites. This is the first time I have seen this parrot or even heard of him. Beautiful 🙂
