Dr Livingstone, next to the Scott Monument in Princes Street, Edinburgh

This  statue of Livingstone features him holding out a Bible, with a pistol and compass at his waist and a cast off lion skin representing him having survived a mauling. It was sculpted by Amelia Paton Hill, (1820 – 1904) one of the few women sculptors in 19th century Edinburgh at that time.

  1. I gotta get out more. The only local statue we have locally worth mentioning is a six-foot long rainbow trout outside the county’s municipal building.
