My recent trip to Venice reminded me that I should see more of Italy, but until I can do that here is a reminder of a trip to Naples almost five years ago. Though it was neither nor the cause nor the result, this trip came at a turning point in my life and the memories are all the stronger for that. Not that glowering Vesuvius needs much help to make an impression.

This brings back memories of my own visit to Pompeii. 🙂
I like the contrast of sharp sunlight and shadows on the architectural remains in the foreground with the murky, glowering sky over Vesuvius. Nice shot.

What a great shot, with the low cloud hugging the mountain

Deb, this is a fantastic capture. I am in awe of Vesuvius and have climbed it some years ago. None of my pictures of Pompeii has it in the background, so I appreciate yours even more. Thank you for this glorious entry!

How fortuitous! But how did you manage to get photos without it in the background:) Have a great Sunday Paula

Thank you! Before this visit in 2010, I had been to Pompeii on a school trip in the 1970s and climbed Vesuvius then.

That’s somewhere I’d love to visit. Moody is the right description for this fine scene.

Well worth a visit. Naples itself has a gritty beauty, the coast is incredibly beautiful and Pompeii is fascinating.
