Following the 2012 Olympics, the Royal Mail painted more than 100 of its iconic red post boxes gold to celebrate each British gold medal, team as well as individual, won during the Games, The boxes selected are usually in the home town of the winning athlete or in a place closely associated with them or the team.
To search for gold boxes in your area you can use this handy online postbox finder.

Ah I saw one of these and was wondering why it was gold how cool! Great post you might like my blog too!! http://thisluxlife.com/

Don’t the people have problems with identifying the golden post boxes …as actually being post boxes?
I’ve always thought the British stick more to traditions. Yet yes, I have to agree that these look good. Maybe even sort of noble.

I don’t know to be honest. The shapes are quite distinctive but they certainly don’t stand out in quite the same way.

Nice! I did not even notice that when I was in the UK last summer!

Very fun thing to add to a list of things to do in London. Great idea for kids too.

Very interesting. Knowing how the English love tradition, I am surprised the colour was changed. Cool reason.

That would have been good to see. Must have been quite a shock to locals to suddenly find red changed to gold.

I love that they did this (sad, as I see above, that they attracted so much grafitti). but they look great here 🙂 thanks so much for sharing.

Unfortunately, they attracted a lot of graffiti and vandalism – not really sure why. I think it was a wonderful idea and to us Brits that expect to see red post boxes everywhere, these really stand out

I wish to thank you for stopping over to my blog today. My other blog got hacked, ugh. The photo is stunning and I love it as I did not get or will get the chance to get there. Travel for me is too hard. College full time, teenager, working security full time, my new Harley Road King. Two days off just seems such a short time to post and comment, but this is worth it. Thanks so much. Jackie 🙂

Glad you’re getting the new blog up and running. I work from home, which means I work all the time, but also mens I can take a quick blog break every now and then! And I get to travel on business too, which is a huge bonus for me. I’ll visit again soon to see how the blog is coming on!
