This massive mural on the side of the Albert Pub in Brighton was painted in summer 2013 by Req and Sinna following a commission by the pub’s landlord Chris Steward.
The music icons honoured here reflect Steward’s personal choice and are, from top left to right, Amy Winehouse, Kurt Cobain, Donna Summer, Syd Barrett, Jim Morrison, Johnny Cash, Frank Zappa, Jimi Hendrix, Dusty Springfield, Captain Beefheart, Frank Sidebottom, Sandy Denny, Joe Strummer, Bob Marley, John Peel, Mark Bolan, Michael Jackson, John Lennon, Brian Jones, Marvin Gaye, Phil Lynott, George Harrison, Elvis Presley, James Brown, Freddie Mercury, Keith Moon, Oliver Reed and Ian Drury.
Sinna One is a Brighton based artist and illustrator who works freehand. REQ is a Brighton based artist born in London and schooled in the New York subway graffiti tradition. His graffiti career started in 1984 in Brighton’s derelict areas where he developed a portrait style of his own using spray paint.

Quite the pantheon of stars. It would be fun to sit here with a pint and play “who’s the star.” BTW is that a Banksy behind glass peeking out from the bottom of the photo? Thanks for contributing to this week’s Monday Mural.

Yes, it’s a famous one! And the George Best also seemed to have been there from before the addition of the music icons
